this overview for the next onednd UA and the future of these UAs is actually really getting my hopes up!!

we’ve learned that a lot of the features in the first release were things the creators knew we might not like, but wanted to test anyway to collect feedback on, and that in the upcoming releases we’ll see multiple versions of different design elements to playtest, like:

- the rules for critical hits

- various ways of gaining inspiration in-game

- ritual casting / spell rules

with the big heads up that each UA released will have a reworked rules glossary, and that when playtesting, you should use all of the building blocks of all of the previous releases, but with the rules defined only by the glossary of the most recent one.

we’re seeing a lot of unification between the classes, with three big unified spell lists, instead of individual ones per class, and now, class groups, which group (presumably) 3-4 classes into one archetype, which will share some features across the board, for example the expert group: bards, rogues, and rangers (and optionally, artificers), which all gain expertise by merit of being in that group.

I’d love to meet a cool hedge-mage. Like yes, you have to scrap magic wherever you can find it, and so far that’s manifested in hungry, exploitative people willing to hunt anything down(rip Eursulon). But there’s potential for it to be punk as hell in the face of The Citadel and empire. Like oh, you’re going to keep this to yourselves? You’re going to make your environment so hostile and militarized that you traumatize your scholars and drive several to endless self depreciation, to deny the world a chance to know magic outside of your walls? Fuck you actually as I stitch together every bit of anything I can find while not actually hurting others. I may not fully understand what you try and keep from me but I will wring my own meaning just as the first wizards did

What's special about your magic staff?

My staff came from the first tree in my village.

I caught it in my fishing lines, when I pulled it up it was dry.

A strange woman gave me a seed. Instead of a plant, it grew this instead.

The metal came from my ancestors' sword.

I carved it myself.

I dropped it in the fire once, and it didn't even char.

As tradition with my family, the wood came from my crib.

I pieced it together it from driftwood at the beach.

I fell in love with a nymph, when I had to leave the forest she gave me one of her branches to remember her by.

I'm actually rather surprised that not a single one of the boys made top three. but then again, I suppose the large number of straight men that play this game are not as visible in fan spaces as us lgbt. That is...a fortunate thing, though, I'd argue.
